Dear Board of Supervisors:

We, the staff from the Harm Reduction Therapy Center (HRTC), a mental health and substance use treatment organization that works in the Tenderloin neighborhood, are fiercely opposed to Mayor Breed’s proposed emergency ordinance regarding drug overdoses in the Tenderloin.

HRTC works with people marginalized by discrimination against those who use drugs. For 20+ years we have stood with the Harm Reduction Coalition, The Drug Policy Alliance, Hospitality House, the Homeless Youth Alliance, Coalition on Homelessness, GLIDE, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, St. James’ Infirmary and many other local partners to create, not just welcoming and person-centered mental health and drug treatment, but fundamental change in how we treat people who use drugs.
